A List: Growing the Game – One Word Why People Play Golf

Golf is wonderful. There are so many reasons why people enjoy this game. Within the past few years there have been organizations (PGA, LPGA, First Tee, etc.) and programs designed to continue growing the game. As I continued to see these efforts, I realized we all have to do our part to have a real impact on growing the game.

At first I didn’t know what I could specifically and individually do but I figured a small step in the right direction would then lead to the next step.  I realized in order to grow the game, I would have to really dig to the sole reason and understand why people want to play the game.  With that in mind I recently posed the query on Facebook and Twitter: “One word why you play golf. Go.”

I was blown away by the answers received.  In understanding these answers, my goal is to carry out my life in the golf world in a manner that also reflects these answers.  If people play golf because of joy, then in order to best accommodate and promote that we can be joyous in our approach and our work.  If people play golf because of challenge, in order to best accommodate that we can provide appropriate challenges for them during practice and lessons.  If people play golf because of the journey, we can support theirs and our own.  If people play golf because of exploration, we can provide opportunities and an inquisitive mind to support their exploration.  Here is the list in the order received:

If you have any more answers, feel free to comment with them below.  Thank you to everyone who participated, with your insight I hope to dawn my part in growing the game.

Have a great day. #golfisfun
